3 Professionals Business Owners Should Hire

Professionals can help you meet or exceed your business needs in ways that you may not know how. Small business owners wear a lot of hats and it can be difficult to determine what areas of your business you should hire professionals for. There is a common misconception that you CAN wear all of the hats and should wear all of the hats.

Letting go of the need to control every aspect of your business is difficult. But, if you want to position your business for sustainability and growth you will need to let go.

Against the popular answer to this question, I am NOT going to tell you to hire the most commonly recommended professionals for your small business. You probably already know you should have an accountant, bookkeeper, marketing expert and lawyer right? So what professionals should you begin working with right away so you can grow a successful business?

3 Professionals every business owner should hire. Listen to the episode here!

Every Business Owner Needs a Coach

A business coach is considered essential to your business. As a professional in the foundations of business, your coach has the ability to help you see your blind spots and give you a proven path to faster results.

Your business coach will help you clarify your long-term vision and short term goals to improve your business growth, development, revenue and profit. A business coach will demonstrate their value and worth by helping you achieve specific, measurable results for your small business. They will also have insights into the following departments:

  • Leadership
  • Marketing
  • Sales
  • Product and Service Development
  • Overhead and Operations
  • Cash Flow

Your business coach can help you identify the professionals you will need in your business. They will also help you identify your own strengths so you can capitalize your own talent in the business as well.

Business owners are busy. It is easy to get distracted and overwhelmed. There are many obstacles in front of you that may be holding you back from winning. As a matter of fact, having a coach has proven to be the best investment for business owners. If you do not have a business coach yet, here are 3 reasons why hiring a coach should be your next business move.

Leverage An Executive Assistant

It’s a vicious cycle to get caught up in. For years I heard that I needed an assistant but I just couldn’t find anywhere in the budget where I could pay this person. Until I realized my worth and how much I was paying myself to respond to email, compile and prepare reports, manage softwares and systems and maintain administrative processes. These tasks actually prevented me from working on profitable areas of my business. When I realized how much my time was worth, it became a no-brainer to find the right person for this job.

If you are paying yourself a salary, ask yourself, would you pay this same rate for the administrative tasks you are currently responsible for? If the answer is no, start writing that job description. Here is a list of a few strengths your executive or administrative assistant should have:

  • Excellent communication skill
  • Organized
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
  • Focused

Just to name a few. Of course, evaluate your own strengths and weaknesses before you determine the features of your assistant. You will want to ensure that you hire top talent that will serve your company in the areas you are the weakest.

If you find that you are doing work you should hand off but if you are not sure how to leverage an assistant in your business, get this book. This is one of my favorite books by Michael Hyatt, “Your World Class Assistant.” While this book was published a few years ago, it is still relevant and timely for business owners that are too busy to work on profitable areas of their businesses. If you need to hand off administration, make this a professional hire you seek right away.

Your Mental Health is a Priority to Your Business Success

In my opinion, business owners are the real MVP’s. There is a significant amount of stress that comes with business ownership that can go unnoticed until it is too late. The reality is, business owners aren’t always living the dream and sipping mai tai’s on the beach while the business runs itself dropping boatloads of cash in the bank. In real life, you are trying to balance multiple departments and take care of yourself somewhere in between.

Small business owners need a mental health professional on their team so they can discuss their fears, uncertainties and triggers without feeling judged. Depression, anxiety, mind drama and self-sabotage has reached all time highs resulting in severe repercussions to the global economy. There is an emotional, mental, physical and financial cost to a business when the owner or staff are negatively affected by their mental health. Morale and productivity decrease ultimately affecting the bottom line.

Whether you are currently in crisis or are ready to be proactive in your mental health, it is not an easy investment to make. Mental health treatment can be costly. Licensed Therapist, Alyssa Cotten at Elevated Money Mindset, understands the poverty mentality often adopted by entrepreneurs ultimately affecting their personal and professional growth as business leaders. Her Wealthy Minds Membership is a monthly membership that helps entrepreneurs overcome the mental health drama, self sabotage and limiting beliefs that once held them back from succeeding and scaling their business.

Every small business owner should assume that they will need to work on their mental health! Your mental health will play a key role in making healthy decisions for your business and so much more.

Find the Right Professional to Grow Your Business

The reason most business owners fail to hire the right professionals is because of the financial costs associated. But, what if you started to see the professionals you hire as an asset and an investment into the growth of your business. Whenever you hire out a task, project or professional you need to create a plan to 10x that investment. As a business owner myself, I have experienced the benefits of hiring out a business coach, executive assistant and a mental health therapist. Since then, I will never go without these professionals in my life and business.

Why do I recommend starting with a business coach? Because your business coach can take a deep dive into your business and discover the blind spots and areas of weaknesses your business is experiencing. Your coach will help you discover the path towards success in other areas of investments you need to make.
